About Me

For my About Me section I thought I’d try something different.  Taking a leaf from the hallowed pages of VANITY FAIR, I bring you The Proust Questionnaire.

The Proust Questionnaire has its origins in a parlor game popularized (though not devised) by Marcel Proust, the French essayist and novelist, who believed that, in answering these questions, an individual reveals his or her true nature.

With that said, I bring you ME!

What is your idea of perfect happiness?  Being beach-side with my loved ones, amazing music, lots of fresh food and getting a nice nap in.

What is your greatest fear?  Ok, now this may sound silly…but I’m petrified of fish. They freak me out so much. I’m trying to ease my way into eating seafood but still feel sick just walking past a seafood shop. My dad grew up on an island in Croatia where they lived off seafood so my whole family loves it…but me. I also have my scuba license and love it but as long as the fish don’t come too close!

Which historical figure do you most identify with?  Michele Weinberger – she invented Post-Its.

Which living person do you most admire?  My Mama! She is such a strong woman with beautiful values who makes everyone around her so happy.

What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?  The need to sing every word in every song – including back-up vocals and harmonies!!  I am not fun to be in the car with. I also have the need to skip the song after one verse and chorus and it drives people crazy.

What is the trait you most deplore in others?  Bad drivers. I’m on the road a lot and I just don’t get it! Rainy days are the worst. It’s like everyone that doesn’t know how to drive decides it’s time to get behind the wheel!

What is your greatest extravagance?  I spend most on travel. Love that quote that it’s the only thing you buy that makes you richer.

What is your favorite journey?  Self-awareness! I studied psychology so I love getting to know how our mind works and realising a lot of what we do or how we feel is based on unconscious thoughts so I like trying to understand them. Other than that my favourite physical journey was back to the island my dad grew up on, Preko. His house is still there and my Dido (Grandad) built it by hand.

What do you consider the most overrated virtue?  This won’t make me popular, but being on time…

On what occasion do you lie?  About how much chocolate I’ve consumed.

What do you dislike most about your appearance?  I used to hate that I was so tall – I was that girl that was a head taller than everyone else at school.  As someone who didn’t like standing out, that was teenage torture!  I also wasn’t that enamoured with my freckles (same reason)!

Which living person do you most despise?  The girl who spilt red wine all over me the other night and turned around and said ‘ah there is hardly any on you anyway.’  Yeah, cheers!

Which words or phrases do you most overuse?  “Sounds good.” It’s my autopilot phrase.

What is your greatest regret?  Anytime I’ve wasted worrying. Most things you worry about never eventuate so I try to make a point to focus on the good, and just keep moving.

What or who is the greatest love of your life?  My Love, my family, music and the beach.

When and where were you happiest?  Here and now.

Which talent would you most like to have?  I would love to be a good singer. I’ve got the drive, and I know all the lyrics, I just need the voice…!

What is your current state of mind?  European Summer

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?  Killer voice!

If you could change one thing about your family, what would it be?  Make them not funnier than me so I could tell all the jokes at the dinner table. I’m only funnier than my Dad so it’s hard to get a word in sometimes (love you Dad!).

What do you consider your greatest achievement?  I’m pretty proud of getting through uni when all I wanted was a gap year to travel. Thanks go to Mum for forcing me to finish it off first! Oh, and reinvention.

If you were to die and come back as a person or thing, what do you think it would be?  I plan to do my time here (this lifetime) really well, so I’m hoping I get it all done!   If I’m gonna have to come back I’d like to be free – like a mermaid (an odd choice for the fish hater, I admit, but it’d be really cool!).  I’d want a caveat written in that I couldn’t be captured, killed, or studied!

If you could choose what to come back as, what would it be?  Wait didn’t I just answer that?

What is your most treasured possession?  Photos! I love pictures! Friends, family, my dog. So many memories!

What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?  The loss of a loved one and living with regrets. I’ll never go to bed on an argument and always tell my loved ones I love them before I say goodbye.

Where would you like to live?  I’d love to chase summer. Australia for 6 months, Europe for 6 months.

What is your favorite occupation?  I wanted to be a criminal profiler or forensic psychologist.

What is your most marked characteristic?  Perfectionism

What is the quality you most like in a man?  Honesty

What is the quality you most like in a woman?  Honesty

What do you most value in your friends?  The laughs, loyalty and support.

Who are your favorite writers?  I’m a Twihard, so I’m going to be honest and say Stephenie Meyer. I love reading Ekhart Tolle and Jodi Pilcout too.

Who is your favorite hero of fiction?  Edward Cullen

Who are your heroes in real life?  Altruistic people. We did this study in psychology on whether there was such a thing as altruism and I believe there is. Reading about people that care for the disadvantaged is always so inspiring.

What are your favorite names?  Kanye, Saint, Bella, Boston.. shall I go on?

What is it that you most dislike?  Loud chewers.

How would you like to die?  Sleeping on the beach in the sun, with loved ones around me.

What is your motto?  Yolo! I know it’s old but you really do only live once. Life is so precious.
